Sara: Grandma, Dad showed me a photo of some of our relatives in Australia, but I don’t know much about the people in it. Could you tell me about them, please?

Grandma: Sure. Who do you want to know about?

Sara: Who’s the short but strong man? He’s about 50 years old. He has short, grey hair. He’s wearing glasses.

Grandma: Oh, he’s your Uncle Danny. He’s 51 years old. 

Sara: What about Uncle Danny’s wife, Aunt Mary? What does she look like?

Grandma: Well, Aunt Mary is short, about 1. 55 metres. She’s also thin. She has short, straight, black hair. She’s about 45 years old.

The Eiffel Tower is the tallest tower in Paris. It is 324 meters tall. It took two years to build this wonderful tower and it was finished in 1889. Now the tower is painted every seven years. 

Every year, almost 7, 000, 000 people visit the tower. Some people take the lift and go up to the top of the tower to have a look at the city of Paris. But if you don’t want to wait for the lift, or if you want to do some exercise, you can walk up more than 1, 000 steps to the top!

Many interesting things have happened to the tower in the past. In 1948, an elephant walked up to the first floor. In 1983, two men went down the stairs on bicycles.

David: Welcome to Dogs’ World. What’s your dog’s name, Officer White?

Officer White: He’s called Billy. 

David: What kind of work does Billy do?

Officer White: He works at the airport. He smells people’s bags and tries to find dangerous things. 

David: Billy does a great job. Jane, you have your pet dog Suzy with you today. I heard that she  helped you a lot last month. 

Jane: Yes. I was very sick and I couldn’t walk around. She turned on and off the lights, brought me things, and even answered the door!

David: What a clever dog! My dog only knows how to eat and sleep! Miss Brown, your dog Winnie is very famous. She appears on TV very often. 

Miss Brown: Yes, but she can’t act when she’s hungry or tired. 

David: Just like me! I can’t work when I’m hungry or tired!

第四单元 挽救树木——松树（课本第48页）

Host: Welcome to The Natural World! People tell us they want to learn more about different kinds of trees, so I’m going to tell you something about pine trees today. 

You can find pine trees in almost every part of China. People grow pine trees in cities because they’re always green. They make the environment more beautiful. They are very strong plants. They can grow in difficult environments. They also have very long lives. Some of them can live more than a thousand years. 

We make use of pine trees in many ways. First, we use the wood from them to make nice furniture. Second, we use them in Chinese medicine. We use almost every part of them to fight against different diseases.

1.Hi! I’m a coin! I was nice and clean when I was made. 

2.People put me in a bag and took me to a bank. I stayed there for a few days. 

3.Then a person at the bank gave me to a man. 

4.That man had a cake shop. Your mother went to his cake shop to buy some cakes. The man gave me to your mother as part of her change, but your mother dropped me. 

5.Your mother couldn’t find me. Then a street cleaner saw me and picked me up. He gave me back to your mother. She was very happy and thanked him! 

6.Your mother gave me to you as pocket money. Then you washed me to make me clean again. I felt very happy.

第六单元 电—— 本尼房间的电（课本第76页）

Man: There’s electricity in the other flats. Let’s find out what’s wrong. Was the washing machine on?

Woman: No, it wasn’t. 

Man: What was on? Can you remember?

Woman: Yes, I can. The lights in the living room were on. I was watching TV. 

Man: Was the fridge on?

Woman: Of course. We must leave the fridge on all the time. 

Man: Was the computer on?

Woman: No. 

Man: How about the rice cooker?

Woman: Oh, yes, I remember. It was time to cook dinner and I just turned on the rice cooker. 

Man: I think we need to take a look at the rice cooker.

第八单元 从爱好到职业——一名航海老师（课本第108页）

When I was young, my family lived next to the sea. My dad used to take my sister and me for trips on his boat at weekends. I began to love sailing. When I got older, I sailed the boat myself. I loved the water and spent all my free time sailing. It was my favourite hobby. 

After I left school, I got a job in an office. I still went sailing every weekend. I wasn’t happy with my job. I found it very boring. I thought about sailing every day. 

One day, I decided to leave my job in the office and make my hobby my career! I trained to be a sailing teacher. Now I spend every day teaching people how to sail safely. I’m very happy now. I love my job.(龙岗家教为你服务)
